I am Rajesh Kumar, currently pursuing 2^nd year MSW at Madurai Social Science College. I am interning at the Institute for Development Education, Action and Studies (IDEAS), Madurai. The purpose of my internship is to learn how an NGO functions in social development. I must say that I am a privileged person. Apart from learning the works of IDEAS, I witnessed how an NGO is engaged in transforming ordinary rural people into potential leaders.

Recently, I had an opportunity to participate in a Public Speaking workshop conducted by IDEAS from 9-13 August 2023. I used to dream of speaking in public but always hesitated. I felt shy. I thought that if I spoke others would fool at me. I did not want to hear any negative comments. So, I discounted myself. I concluded that I am not a public speaker. All these days I have been a passive listener.  During the workshop, I was given opportunities to read books of various kinds. For the first time, I started reading books other than my academic subjects. I familiarised myself with some topics. On the 3^rd day of the workshop, I started speaking in public. My hand movements made me feel proud that I can be a communicator.

After participating in the workshop, I am grabbing opportunities to speak in public at my college. I have spoken a few times from the stage. I have realised the importance of developing public speaking skills. I have gained confidence. I am motivating others. I will utilise this skill to present my views on social issues and on what we could do to address social issues. Thanks to IDEAS for giving me an opportunity to develop this skill.

பொது மேடைகளில் என்னாலும் பேச முடியும்!

நான் ராஜேஷ் குமார், தற்போது மதுரை சமூக அறிவியல் கல்லூரியில் MSW இரண்டாம் ஆண்டு படித்து வருகிறேன். நான் மதுரையில் உள்ள அய்டியாஸ் நிறுவனத்தில் கள அனுபவ பயிற்சியில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளேன். என் கள அனுபவத்தின் வாயிலாக, சமூக வளர்ச்சியில் ஒரு தன்னார்வ தொண்டு நிறுவனம் எவ்வாறு செயல்படுகிறது என்பதை கற்றுக்கொள்வதற்காக இங்கு வந்தேன். மேலும், “நான் கொடுத்து வைத்தவன்” என்று தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும். ஏனென்றால் அய்டியாஸ் மையம் சாதாரண கிராமப்புற மக்களைத் திறமையான தலைவர்களாக மாற்றுகின்ற அளவிற்கு சிறப்பான சேவையில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளது என்பதை நான் இங்கு தெரிந்து கொண்டேன்.

சமீபத்தில், 9-13 ஆகஸ்ட் 2023 வரை IDEAS மையம் நடத்திய மேடைப் பேச்சாற்றல் பயிற்சியில் பங்கேற்கும் வாய்ப்பும் எனக்குக் கிடைத்தது. நான் பொது வெளியில் தைரியமாக பேச வேண்டும் என்பது  நீண்டநாள் கனவு, ஆனால் எப்போதும் பேச தயங்குவேன். எனக்கு பேச வெட்கமாக இருக்கும். நான் பேசினால் மற்றவர்கள் என்னை கேலி செய்வார்கள் என்று சிந்தித்ததுண்டு. நான் மற்றவர்களின் எதிர்மறையான கருத்துக்களை விரும்புவதில்லை. நான் ஒரு பேச்சாளன் இல்லை. இத்தனை நாட்களும் நான் ஒரு செயலற்ற நபராக இருந்தேன். பயிலரங்கின் போது, பல்வேறு வகையான புத்தகங்களைப் படிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு எனக்கு கிடைத்தது. முதல் முறையாக, எனது கல்விப் பாடங்களைத் தவிர மற்ற புத்தகங்களைப் படிக்க ஆரம்பித்தேன். நான் சில தலைப்புகளை தயார் செய்து பேசப் பழகினேன். இந்த பயிலரங்கத்தின்; 3வது நாள் பொதுக்கூட்டத்தில் முதல் முறையாக பேசினேன். கைகளை அசைத்து, சைகைகளுடன் நான் பேசியது எனக்கே மிகவும் ஆச்சரியமாக இருந்தது.

இந்த மேடைப் பேச்சாற்றல் பயி;ற்சியில் பங்கேற்ற பிறகு, எனது கல்லூரியில் பேசுவதற்கான வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. அந்த மேடையில் பேசிய பின்பு தான் எனக்கு தெரிந்தது. பொது மேடையில் பேசும் திறனைகளை வளர்ப்பதன் முக்கியத்துவத்தை உணர்ந்தேன். எனக்கு நம்பிக்கை வந்துள்ளது. நான் மற்ற மாணவர்களை ஊக்குவிக்கிறேன். சமூகப் பிரச்சினைகள் மற்றும் சமூகப் பிரச்சினைகளைத் தீர்க்க நாம் என்ன செய்ய முடியும் என்பது பற்றிய எனது கருத்துக்களை முன்வைக்க எனது பேச்சாற்றலை பயன்படுத்துவேன். இந்த திறனை வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள எனக்கு வாய்ப்பளித்த அய்டியாஸ் மையத்திற்கு நன்றி.
