An Evening Study Centre is functioning in Kannagi Colony, Thiruthangal, Sivakasi, under the Community Development Programme. Children from the Itinerant People Rights Organization are attending the centre. A Constitutional Rights Education Forum is also conducted for children from Classes 6 to 9.

Grace Maria belongs to a poor family from the Kattu Nayakan community. Her father died when she was very young, and her mother remarried. Her family travels to different villages for work, including stove repair, umbrella repair and collecting old iron materials.

Grace studied up to Class 5 at Vellaiyapuram Panchayat Union Primary School. Due to poverty, she stopped going to school for two years. Since her parents went to work, she had to stay at home to take care of her younger siblings. The Evening Study Centre teachers regularly visited her home and explained the importance of education, girls’ safety and the importance of continuing her studies. Seeing other children attend the centre and take part in activities also encouraged her family to think about her education.

After several discussions, her family agreed to send her back to school. She was admitted to Class 7 at Sivakasi Government-Aided Muslim Higher Secondary School. The centre continues to support and monitor her education. She attends the Evening Study Centre, and the team visits her school every month to discuss her progress with the Head Teacher.

Grace Maria is now continuing her studies well, though she still takes leave from school occasionally. Her parents are happy to see positive changes in her life and behaviour. Her dream is to become a teacher.

சிவகாசி,  திருத்தங்கல், கண்ணகி காலனியில் அலைகுடி மக்கள் உரிமைகள் இயக்கத்தின் கிளை உறுப்பினர்களின் குழந்தைகளை  கொண்டு  மாலை நேர கல்வி மையம் செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. 6 முதல் 9 ஆம் வகுப்பு வரையிலான குழந்தைகளுக்காக அரசியலமைப்பு உரிமைகள் குறித்த கல்விக் கருத்தரங்கும் நடத்தப்படுகிறது.

கிரேஸ் மரியா, காட்டுட்டு நாயக்கர் சமூகத்தில் வறுமையான குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். அவர் மிகவும் சிறுவயதாக இருந்தபோதே அவரது தந்தை இறந்துவிட்டார், அவரது தாயார் மறுமணம் செய்துகொண்டார். அவரது குடும்பத்தினர் கேஸ் அடுப்பு பழுதுபார்த்தல், குடை பழுதுபார்த்தல் மற்றும் பழைய இரும்புப் பொருட்களைச் சேகரித்தல் உள்ளிட்ட வேலைகளுக்காக வெவ்வேறு கிராமங்களுக்குச் சென்று வருகின்றனர்.

கிரேஸ் வெள்ளையாபுரம் ஊராட்சி ஒன்றிய தொடக்கப் பள்ளியில் 5 ஆம் வகுப்பு வரை படித்தார். வறுமையின் காரணமாக, அவர் இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் பள்ளிக்குச் செல்வதை நிறுத்திவிட்டார். அவரது பெற்றோர் வேலைக்குச் சென்றதால், அவர் தனது தம்பி. தங்கைகளை கவனித்துக்கொள்ள வீட்டிலேயே இருக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. மாலை நேரக் கல்வி மையத்தின் ஆசிரியர்கள் தவறாமல் அவரது வீட்டிற்கு வந்து, கல்வியின் முக்கியத்துவம், பெண்களின் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் படிப்பைத் தொடர்வதன் முக்கியத்துவம் போன்றவற்றை தொடர்ந்து கூறி கொண்டேயிருந்தனர்.  மற்ற குழந்தைகள் மையத்திற்கு வந்து பல செயல்பாடுகளில் பங்கேற்பதைக் கண்டதும், அவரது குடும்பத்தினர் அவரது கல்வியைப் பற்றி யோசிக்க ஆரம்பித்தனர்.

பல கலந்துரையாடல்களுக்குப் பிறகு, அவளது குடும்பத்தினர் அவளை மீண்டும் பள்ளிக்கு அனுப்ப ஒப்புக்கொண்டனர். அவள் சிவகாசியில் அரசு நிதியுதவி பெறும் முஸ்லிம் மேல்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் ஏழாம் வகுப்பில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டாள். மாலை நேர கல்வி மையம் தொடர்ந்து அவளது கல்விக்கு ஆதரவளித்து,  கண்காணிப்பும் செய்து வருகிறது. அவள் மாலை நேரக் கல்வி மையத்திற்கு வருகிறாள்.  மாதம் ஒருமுறை பள்ளிக்கு  சென்று தலைமை ஆசிரியர் அவர்களை நேரில் சந்தித்து மாணவியின் கல்வி நிலை அறிந்து வரப்படுகிறது.

கிரேஸ் மரியா அவ்வப்போது பள்ளியிலிருந்து விடுப்பு எடுத்தாலும், தற்போது தனது படிப்பை நன்றாகத் தொடர்கிறாள். அவளது வாழ்க்கையிலும் நடத்தையிலும் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நேர்மறையான மாற்றங்களைக் கண்டு அவளது பெற்றோர் மகிழ்ச்சியடைகிறார்கள். ஓர் ஆசிரியை ஆவதே அவளது கனவு.
