I am R. Mani. I worked as a sanitation worker for the last 30 years in Melakkal Panchayat, Vadipatti Union, Madurai district. In October 2025, I retired from my job.

After retirement, I went to the Panchayat Secretary to ask about my retirement benefits. He did not speak to me properly and refused to give any answer. Then I went to the Block Development Officer, and he also did not respond. I was helpless.

At that time, I remembered attending a meeting conducted by the Madurai Legal Awareness Coordination Committee (MLACC). In that meeting, the resource person clearly explained our wages and benefits and what must be done if such benefits were denied. Quoting a Government Order, the resource person said that a sanitation worker is entitled to receive Rs. 50,000 as a retirement benefit and Rs. 2,000 as a monthly pension after retirement. I was given a copy of the Government Order.

The person further explained that if we submit a petition to the District Collector’s office on a Monday, grievance day, immediate action would be taken. I searched for a copy of the order. With the help of my grandson, I found the Government Order. I was overjoyed. I wrote a petition, attached all the required documents, and submitted it to the District Collector.

Within one month, the District Collector ordered the concerned officer and clerk to release my retirement amount of Rs. 50,000 and monthly pension of Rs. 2,000.
Within 10 days, I received the Rs. 50,000. I was also given Rs. 4,000 as a pension for two months. They assured me that I would receive my pension every month regularly.

At an old age, when I was worried about how I would manage my expenses, this monthly pension of Rs. 2,000 has become a great support for me. I sincerely thank the MLACC, who guided me and helped me receive my rightful retirement benefits.

10 நாட்களுக்குள், எனக்கு ரூ.50,000 கிடைத்தது. இரண்டு மாதங்களுக்கு ஓய்வூதியமாக ரூ.4,000-மும் வழங்கப்பட்டது. ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் எனது ஓய்வூதியத்தை தவறாமல் கொடுப்பதாக அவர்கள் எனக்கு உறுதியளித்தனர்.
