The Evening Study Centre at Kannagi Colony, Thiruthangal, Sivakasi, Virudhunagar District, has been functioning under the Social Development Project for the children of IPRO branch members. The centre conducts Constitutional Rights Education for children studying from Class 6 to 9, helping them understand their rights and responsibilities.

Sathiyavaani belongs to the Kattunayakkar community and lives with her parents, Mr. Kaliyappan and Mrs. Maniyammal, who earn a meagre sum by collecting old clothes. Due to financial hardship, after completing Class 7, Sathiyavaani discontinued her education and began helping her parents in collecting old clothes, repairing umbrellas, selling pani puri, and other income-generating activities. The teachers of the Evening Study Centre visited the family and counselled her parents on the importance of education, the protection of the girl child, and the long-term benefits of schooling. Sathiyavaani’s parents observed positive changes in the children attending the Evening Study Centre and the opportunities the centre provided through various educational and extracurricular activities. Motivated by these experiences, Sathiyavaani’s parents enrolled her in the Evening Study Centre.

After she began attending the centre regularly, the teachers continued to encourage her to return to school and held further discussions with her parents. With their consent, Sathiyavaani was successfully re-enrolled in Class 8 at the Government Aided Muslim Higher Secondary School in Sivakasi. She is encouraged to attend the Evening Study Centre every day, and the teachers visit her school once a month to meet the headmaster and monitor her academic progress.

Today, Sathiyavaani attends school regularly, actively participates in the Evening Study Centre, and is progressing well in her studies. Her parents are happy to see the positive changes in her behaviour and future aspirations. Sathiyavaani now dreams of becoming a government school teacher.
