During that programme, they explained the law prohibiting manual scavenging, rehabilitation rights, alternative livelihood opportunities, and welfare schemes. They had also shared their contact number with all workers. I contacted the legal awareness team and explained my problem. The very next day, they came to my panchayat, met me personally, and listened to my situation in detail. They advised me that merely speaking to the Panchayat Secretary would not solve the issue and that the proper solution was to submit a petition to the Madurai District Collector’s Office.

Following their guidance, I prepared a petition with the required documents and submitted it during the Monday grievance day at the Collector’s Office. Based on my petition, the authorities instructed the Panchayat Secretary to release my retirement benefits immediately. Within 10 days, my retirement settlement amount of ₹50,000 was credited to my bank account. Since then, my monthly pension has also been credited regularly without any interruption. I am grateful to the Madurai Legal Awareness Coordination Committee for guiding me to secure the benefits I had earned.
