I am Muthaiah, and I work as a field staff member of the Madurai Legal Awareness Coordination Committee functioning under the auspices of IDEAS. We are all aware of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), undertaken by the Government of India. In November 2025, this process was initiated in Tamil Nadu, as the elections for the State will be held in April – May 2026. I was given a form by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) to be filled out and submitted. When I looked at the form, I was shocked. I did not know how to fill out the form. There were items to be filled out, such as parents’ voter ID numbers, reference number of earlier voters’ revision, etc. There was fear in me. If I wrongly fill out the form and submit it, I might lose my right to vote. I had no one to refer to.

On November 22, 2025, IDEAS organized a consultation to help the staff and the people understand how to fill out the SIR form and submit it. I felt that this was a good opportunity, and I participated in the consultation. About 80 people participated.

The Assistant Block Development Officer of Madurai West was the main resource person. He explained in simple language how to fill out the form. He also addressed several concerns and doubts of the participants. I understood the process and took notes of the guidance. I decided to help out my villagers who needed it, as most of the people were less educated. I wanted to ensure their voting rights as citizens. I spent about three weeks helping and guiding my village people and others who asked for assistance. I had deep satisfaction as I helped many people to ensure their voting rights.

நான் முத்தையா. ஐடியாஸ் அமைப்பின் கீழ் செயல்படும் மதுரை சட்ட விழிப்புணர்வு ஒருங்கிணைப்புக் குழுவில் களப்பணியாளராகப் பணியாற்றுகிறேன். இந்திய அரசாங்கத்தால் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் வாக்காளர் பட்டியல் சிறப்பு தீவிர திருத்தம்  (SIR) பற்றி நாம் அனைவரும் அறிவோம். ஏப்ரல் – மே 2026-ல் சட்டமன்ற  தேர்தல்கள் நடைபெறவிருப்பதால், நவம்பர் 2025-ல் தமிழ்நாட்டில் இந்தப் பணி தொடங்கப்பட்டது. வாக்குச்சாவடி நிலை அலுவலர் (BLO) என்னிடம் ஒரு படிவத்தைக் கொடுத்து, அதை நிரப்பிச் சமர்ப்பிக்கும்படி கூறினார். அந்தப் படிவத்தைப் பார்த்தபோது எனக்கு அதிர்ச்சியாக இருந்தது. அதை எப்படி நிரப்புவது என்று எனக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. ஏனென்றால் அதில் பெற்றோரின் வாக்காளர் அடையாள அட்டை எண்கள், முந்தைய வாக்காளர் பட்டியல் திருத்தத்தின் எனது எண் போன்ற பல விவரங்களை நிரப்ப வேண்டியிருந்தது. எனக்குள் ஒரு பயம் ஏற்பட்டது. நான் படிவத்தை தவறாக நிரப்பிச் சமர்ப்பித்தால், எனது வாக்களிக்கும் உரிமையை இழந்துவிடுவேனோ என்று அஞ்சினேன். யாரிடம் கேட்பது என்று எனக்குத் தெரியவில்லை.

நவம்பர் 22, 2025 அன்று, ஐடியாஸ் மையம் பணியாளர்களுக்கும், மக்களுக்கும் SIR படிவத்தை எப்படி நிரப்பிச் சமர்ப்பிப்பது என்பதைப் புரியவைப்பதற்காக ஒரு கலந்தாய்வுக் கூட்டத்தை ஏற்பாடு செய்தது. இது ஒரு நல்ல வாய்ப்பு என்று கருதி, நான் அந்தக் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டேன். இக் கூட்டத்தில் சுமார் 80 பேர் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

மதுரை மேற்கு வட்டத்தின் உதவி வட்டார வளர்ச்சி அலுவலர் முதன்மை பயிற்சியாளராக இருந்தார். அவர் படிவத்தை எப்படி நிரப்புவது என்பதை எளிய விதத்தில் விளக்கி கூறினார். பங்கேற்பாளர்களின் பல கேள்விகளுக்கும் சந்தேகங்களுக்கும் அவர் பதிலளித்தார். நான் இதை கவனமுடன் குறிப்புகள் எடுத்துக் கொண்டேன். என் கிராமத்தில் உள்ள பெரும்பாலான மக்கள் குறைந்த கல்வி அறிவு பெற்றவர்கள் என்பதால், அவர்களுக்குத் தேவையான உதவிகளைச் செய்ய நான் முடிவு செய்தேன். குடிமக்களாகிய அவர்களின் வாக்களிக்கும் உரிமையை உறுதிசெய்ய நான் விரும்பினேன். சுமார் மூன்று வாரங்கள் என் கிராம மக்களுக்கும், உதவி கேட்ட மற்றவர்களுக்கும் உதவி செய்வதிலும் வழிகாட்டுவதிலும் செலவிட்டேன். பலரின் வாக்களிக்கும் உரிமையை உறுதிசெய்ய உதவியதில் எனக்கு மிகுந்த மனநிறைவு ஏற்பட்டது.
