The Kal Oddar families living in Rajagopal Nagar area of Kovilpatti Union, Tuticorin District, after several training sessions decided to form a Self-Help Group. 12 women joined their hands and formed the Kal Oddar Women’s Self-Help Group on 5 April 2022. The first initiative was saving. Every member contributed Rs. 200 per month. Mrs. Selvi and Mrs. Vedavalli assumed leadership roles of the group and decided to run and manage the effective functioning of the group.

The women worked on the internal loaning system and drafted rules and regulations for providing internal loans. All the members agreed to the proposals. Motivated by the cooperation of women members, the leaders started a bank account in the name of the Self-Help Group at Central Cooperative Bank, Kovilpatti.

Until October 2025, the savings amount of the group is Rs 85,200. After providing internal loans for a few members, cash in hand is Rs 3,200, and cash at the Bank is Rs 20,790. The group also received a government incentive of Rs 15,000.

Appreciating the regular savings of the women’s group and their interest in starting home-based work, the Central Cooperative Bank offered a loan of Rs 9,00,000 for the group. Using this loan, women have initiated income-generating activities. Some bought tailoring machines, a few started grocery shops, and a few were engaged in the purchase and sale of vessels. Some amount was spent on house repair and medical expenses.

In one voice, the women say, “After the formation of SHG, we have grown in self-confidence; more women want to join our SHG; some women have improved their livelihood; dependency on money lenders has reduced, the culture of saving and its importance is realised and the neighbouring community women appreciate our growth.”

Today, the Kal Oddar Women’s Self-Help Group stands as a symbol of unity, self-assertion and self-reliance of the most vulnerable Kal Oddar women.

தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டம் கோவில்பட்டி ஒன்றியத்தில் உள்ள மந்தித்தோப்பு ஊராட்சி, ராஜகோபால் நகர் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள அலைகுடி மக்கள் உரிமைகள் இயக்கத்தின் கிளை பெண் உறுப்பினர்கள், தங்களது சமூக, அரசியல் மற்றும் பொருளாதார நிலையை மேம்படுத்தும் நோக்கத்துடன் ஒரு புதிய முயற்சியை ஆரம்பித்தனர். இதன் விளைவாக 12 உற்சாகமான பெண்களை இணைத்து 05 ஏப்ரல் 2022 அன்று “அலைகுடி மக்கள் மகளிர் சுய உதவிக் குழு” உருவானது.

“சேமிப்பு என்பது வளர்ச்சியின் முதல் படி” என்ற நம்பிக்கையுடன், ஒவ்வொரு உறுப்பினரும் மாதம் ரூ.200/- வீதம் சேமித்து வருகின்றனர். குழுவின் ஊக்குநராக செல்வி, பிரதிநிதியாக வேதவள்ளி ஆகியோர் தன்னார்வத்துடன் செயல்பட்டு, குழுவை முன்னேற்றும் பொறுப்பை ஏற்றுள்ளனர்.

பெண்களின் பொருளாதார வலிமையை உருவாக்கும் நோக்கில், இக்குழு உறுப்பினர்களுக்குள் உள் கடன் வழங்குதல், தவணை முறையில் திருப்பிச் செலுத்துதல், சேமிப்பு வங்கி கணக்கு தொடங்குதல் போன்ற செயல்பாடுகள் நடைபெற்றுவருகின்றன. குழுவின் வங்கி கணக்கு மத்திய கூட்டுறவு வங்கி, கோவில்பட்டி பஜார் கிளையில் 08.04.2022 அன்று தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

இன்றுவரை குழுவின் மொத்த சேமிப்பு ரூ.85,200/- ஆகும். அதில் ரூ.82,000/- உள் கடனாக வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளதுடன், குழு கையிருப்பு ரூ.3,200/- மற்றும் வங்கியிருப்பு ரூ.20,790/- ஆக உள்ளது. மேலும், அரசு ஊக்கத்தொகையாக ரூ.15,000/- பெற்றுள்ளனர்.

பெண்களின் கடுமையான முயற்சியும் நம்பிக்கையும் காரணமாக, 13.08.2024 அன்று மத்திய கூட்டுறவு வங்கியிலிருந்து ரூ.9,00,000/- கடன் குழுவிற்கு வழங்கப்பட்டது. இதில் ஒன்பது பெண்கள் தலா ஒரு இலட்சம் ரூபாய் வீதம் பெற்றுள்ளனர். அந்தத் தொகையை தையல் இயந்திரம் வாங்குதல், மளிகைக் கடை தொடங்குதல், வீடு மராமத்து, பாத்திர வியாபாரம் மற்றும் மருத்துவச் செலவுகள் போன்ற குடும்ப மற்றும் வாழ்வாதார தேவைகளுக்காக பயனுள்ள வகையில் பயன்படுத்தியுள்ளனர்.

இத்தகைய முயற்சிகள் பெண்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் பல நேர்மறை மாற்றங்களை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளன. பெண்களில் தன்னம்பிக்கை பெரிதும் வளர்ந்துள்ளது. மேலும் பல பெண்கள் சுய உதவிக் குழுவில் சேரும் ஆர்வம் உருவாகியுள்ளது. சிறுதொழில்கள் மூலம் பொருளாதார முன்னேற்றம் அடைந்துள்ளனர். தனியார் பைனான்ஸ் கடன்களின் மீது இருந்த சார்பு குறைந்துள்ளது. சேமிப்பின் அவசியத்தை உணர்ந்து தன்னம்பிக்கையுடன் செயல்படும் மனப்பாங்கு உருவாகியுள்ளது.

அலைகுடி மகளிர் சுய உதவிக் குழு இன்று அந்தப் பகுதியின் பெண்களுக்கு சுய உதவி, சுயநம்பிக்கை மற்றும் சுயநிறைவு ஆகியவற்றின் அடையாளமாக மாறியுள்ளது. தங்களின் சேமிப்பால் தொடங்கிய இந்தச் சிறிய முயற்சி, இன்று பெண்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் பெரிய மாற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது — அது அவர்களின் பொருளாதார நிலை மட்டுமல்ல, சமூக மரியாதை மற்றும் தன்னம்பிக்கையையும் உயர்த்தியுள்ளது.
