“On 6 May 2024, Mr. Andar, a 50-year-old Arunthathiyar was murdered by caste people in Nadupatti village, near Dindigul. In the past, when such incidents of violence or murder took place the Scheduled Caste communities accepted them as their fate and never acted upon them. This time a First Information Report is filed. This is a good development. However, the community members are still living in fear. This is not an isolated event. Caste-based atrocities are prevalent.

In this context, a workshop on ‘Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 and Preamble of the Constitution of India’ was organized by IDEAS in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations in Dindigul on 28 May. I brought 20 people. Overall, about 80 persons participated. The participants felt happy that they received good knowledge and motivation when it was needed the most. As the participants were from different NGOs and CSOs it was also an occasion to reflect on how collective actions could be initiated when incidents of violences take place. Some members also stated that it was the first time they received practical inputs on the POA Act and the Constitution.

The interesting aspect was the Q&A. Many participated actively and raised a lot of questions. The inputs and clarifications provided by the advocates were much appreciated. I would say the inputs alleviated the fear of many and they were willing to explore collectively what could be done to demand justice for Mr. Andar. At the end of the workshop, the participants expressed that only solidarity and collective actions are the future pathways to live a dignified life”, Mr. Thangapandiayn.

ஒற்றுமையுடன் ஒருங்கிணைந்து செயல்படுதலே எதிர்காலத்திற்கான சிறந்த வழி!

மே 6, 2024 அன்று திண்டுக்கல் அருகே நடுப்பட்டி கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த அருந்ததியரான திரு. ஆண்டார் (வயது 50), ஆதிக்கச் சாதியினரால் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். கடந்த காலங்களில் இதுபோன்ற வன்முறைச் சம்பவங்கள் அல்லது கொலைகள் நடக்கும்போது, பட்டியலின மக்கள் பலமுறை அவற்றைத் தங்கள் தலைவிதியாக நினைத்து சகித்து கொண்டு வந்தார்கள். எப்போதாவது, எதிர்வினை ஆற்றியதுண்டு. ஆனால் இந்த முறை உடனடியாக முதல் தகவல் அறிக்கை பதிவு செய்துள்ளார்கள். இது ஒரு நல்ல முன்னேற்றமாகும். ஆனாலும், மக்கள் இன்னும் பயத்துடன் தான் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். சாதி ரீதியான வன்முறைகள் பரவலாக நடந்து கொண்டு தான் இருக்கின்றது.

இந்த சூழ்நிலையில், பட்டியியல் சாதி; மற்றும் பழங்குடியினர் (வன்கொடுமைகள் தடுப்பு) சட்டம் 1989 மற்றும் இந்திய அரசியலமைப்பின் கோட்பாடுகள் பற்றி; மே 28 அன்று குடிமை சமூக குழுக்களுடன் இணைந்து அய்டியாஸ் மையம் திண்டுக்கல்லில் ஒருநாள் பயிலரங்கம் ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தது. இப்பயிலரங்கத்தில் பங்கேற்ற தோழர். தங்கபாண்டியன் கூறுகையில், “நான் இந்த பயிற்சிக்கு எங்கள் பகுதியிலிருந்தது 20 பேரை அழைத்து வந்தேன். மொத்தமாக 80 பேர் இப்பயிலரங்கத்தில் பங்கேற்றனர். பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் தங்களுக்கு தேவையான அடிப்படை அறிவும், ஊக்கமும் பெற்றதில் மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர். பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் வெவ்வேறு தன்னார்வ தொண்டு நிறுவனங்கள் மற்றும் குடிமை சமூகக் குழுக்களை சேர்ந்தவர்களாக இருந்ததால், வன்முறைச் சம்பவங்கள் நிகழும்போது எவ்வாறு ஒருங்கிணைந்து செயல்படலாம் என்பதை பற்றி சிந்திக்கவும் இது ஒரு வாய்ப்பாக அமைந்தது. பங்கேற்பாளர்களில் சிலர் வன்கொடுமைத் தடுப்புச் சட்டம் மற்றும் அரசியலமைப்பு சட்டத்தை இப்பயிலரங்கில் தான்  முதன்முறையாக தெரிந்து கொண்டதாக கூறினார்.

பயிலரங்கத்தில் முக்கியமான பகுதி கேள்வி பதில் அமர்வாக இருந்தது. இதில் பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் பல கேள்விகளை கேட்டனர். தங்கள் கேள்விகளுக்கான வழக்கறிஞர்களின் பதிலை கேட்டு கருத்துத் தெளிவு பெற்றனர். தெரிந்து கொண்ட கருத்துரைகள் அவர்களின் பயத்தைப் போக்கியது. மேலும் திரு. ஆண்டார் அவர்களின் கொலைக்கான நீதி பெற அனைவரும் ஒருங்கிணைந்து செயல்பட வேண்டும் என்று தீர்மானித்தனர். பயிலரங்கின் முடிவில் ஒற்றுமை மற்றும் ஒருங்கிணைந்த நடவடிக்கைகள் மட்டுமே மதிப்புள்ள வாழ்க்கைக்கு வழி வகுக்கும் என பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் தெரிவித்தாக கூறினார்.
